“Dr. Scott Farthing provides an environment where transformation and learning can take place in the field of voice classes.  When I began I was the "queen of karaoke" and with his helpful guidance and direction, I am now able to sing jazz professionally with a pianist.  Scott is a gifted teacher and mentor as well as a composer of music and a talented singer.  He encourages me to push past my fears and resistance found in the process of singing and helps me to believe in my abilities and hard work to excel in the presentation of the music. “

Beginning Voice Class

Beginning Voice Class (MUS 80) is the place to start learning about basic vocal technique in a non-threatening environment. Whether you want to sing Musical Theater, Pop, Country, Rock, Folk, Jazz, or Classical, a good foundation in singing is necessary! Basic fundamentals of breathing, resonance, range, posture, and stage deportment are subjects that are explored in this popular class. Beginning Voice is ideal for the student who has little previous experience singing, but would like to try it out!

Intermediate Voice Class

Intermediate Voice Class is a continuation of the basics of breathing, resonance, range, posture, and stage deportment covered in Beginning Voice. There is also an expectation of some previous vocal experience that is necessary for the student to succeed in the requirements for this level of vocal study.

Advanced Voice Class

Advanced Voice Class and Vocal Repertoire and Procedures expect a high level of previous singing and vocal study for enrollment. Foreign Language diction, advanced repertoire, and in-depth score study for singers will be the primary concentration for this class. Advanced Voice is designed for Music majors and students that are serious about their vocal development and are planning for transfer. Also, it is a great class for singers who already have music degrees and want to continue singing in an academic environment to work on performance material.
